BATMAN VILLAINS ON THE SCREEN

Batman’s villains shine in the audio-video adaptations. The style of the characters, their incredible performances and the immersive atmosphere of the adaptation make us fall for their charismatic attitude and their striking acts. In this article we will see several of these super villains in their best adaptations.

BATMAN VILLAINS on THE 60’S ERA

The beginnings of Batman in audiovisual format were in these years. At this time Batman stories were more casual, and were created for the young audience. Among its characters we have almost all the main villains who live in Gotham City. The Joker, Catwoman, The Riddler and Penguin are some of the most recurring villains in these adaptations.

As we can see, these characters are very different from how they are currently characterized, which gives a touch of nostalgia for lovers of the classics.

BATMAN VILLAINS on THE 80’S/90’S ERA

After the established classic style, Tim Burton decided to give Batman a darker and more depressing touch, with a saga of films that set a benchmark for future adaptations. These adaptations were aimed at a bigger audience than the previous one, so we have more grotesque scenes that were more similar to the comics.

Villains such as: The Joker, the Penguin, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, Riddler and Two-Face are some examples of the magnificent antagonists that Batman and his friends have to face.

BATMAN VILLAINS on THE DARK KNIGHT SAGA

In these films created by acclaimed director Cristopher Nolan, we see how the darkness of its predecessor is still present, but focusing it more on action films. This combination was a success and resulted in one of the sagas most beloved by Batman fans.

Once again, the Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, Bane and now Ra’s al-Ghul and the Scarecrow too. They create a cast of characters that is difficult to beat. Their costumes are more urbanized and their style becomes more that of a more realistic film than what we are used to.

BATMAN VILLAINS on THE BATMAN

The last Batman adaptation. The dark aesthetic takes on a more grunge and depressing touch that envelops you in its alternative aura from the first moment.

The main villain of the film is a never-before-seen Riddler. His twisted puzzles, charisma, and urban aesthetic make him a realistic enemy that Batman will have to face to prevent the citizens of Gotham from being in danger.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • Danny DeVito is very proud of his performance as the Penguin and believes it is one of the best performances ever.
  • The personality of the Joker from the Dark Knight saga is based on famous characters such as Alex (A Clockwork Orange) and Sid Vicious (singer of the “Sex Pistols”).
  • The Riddler’s style in The Batman is inspired by the famous Zodiac Killer.

This has been the journey of Batman’s villains through time. Remember that you can get these villains on the official Knight Models website.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE BATFAMILY (PART 2)

The Batfamily comprises a collective of vigilantes operating within Gotham City. They share a profound connection with Batman, collaborating harmoniously to achieve their shared objectives. In essence, they represent a group of individuals who, despite their individual struggles, transform into a close-knit family of kindred spirits. Even for Bruce Wayne, who serves as the central figure in this assembly, the Batfamily members are his confidants and trusted allies.

While they bear the label of a family, the term “Batfamily” conveys a deeper significance. Each member comes with their distinct past and personal traumas to confront. Nevertheless, the deliberate choice of embracing one another as family and working collectively toward a brighter future for Gotham City endows them with a unique bond that only the term “Bat-family” can encapsulate.

As previously mentioned, the Batfamily comprises a diverse group, with each member typically maintaining a degree of independence within the group dynamic.

ROBIN (DAMIAN WAYNE)

As the biological son of Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Talia al Ghul, Damian carries an intriguing mix of both heroism and villainy in his bloodline. Raised by the League of Assassins, Damian was initially trained to be a formidable warrior, inheriting exceptional combat skills. However, his path takes a significant turn when he’s introduced to his father, Batman, and subsequently becomes part of the Batfamily.

As a member of the Batfamily, Damian Wayne evolves from a fierce, often morally ambiguous young vigilante into a respected and skilled superhero. His journey is marked by a constant struggle to reconcile his lineage with the values and principles of justice upheld by Batman and the Batfamily.

HUNTRESS (HELENA BERTINELLI)

Huntress is a compelling member of the Batfamily, the extended vigilante clan associated with Batman. Her origin story is a tale of vengeance and justice. Born as Helena Rosa Bertinelli, she witnessed the brutal murder of her parents, who were part of a powerful mafia family in Gotham City. Determined to avenge their deaths, Helena adopted the Huntress persona and embarked on a quest to eradicate crime from the shadows.

As Huntress, she employs a unique blend of martial arts skills, detective acumen, and a crossbow to take on the criminal underworld. Though she doesn’t share the same strict “no-kill” rule as Batman, she still strives to make Gotham City a safer place. Huntress is a complex and fierce character who has made her mark as a formidable crime-fighter within the Batfamily, showcasing the diversity and depth of this dynamic group of heroes.

SPOILER (STEPHANIE BROWN)

Spoiler, also known as Stephanie Brown, is a key member of the Batfamily, and her story is one of resilience and determination. Stephanie initially donned the Spoiler persona to thwart her criminal father’s activities. Her strong sense of justice and desire to make Gotham City safer led her to become a vigilante, working alongside the likes of Batman and Robin. Her dedication and resourcefulness earned her a place within the Batfamily, where she played vital roles in taking down various villains and solving complex mysteries.

Spoiler’s character highlights the essential theme of family that runs through DC’s Batman comics. Her dynamic relationships with other members of the Batfamily, including her close ties with Batman, Robin, and Batgirl, showcase how this diverse group of heroes comes together to combat crime in Gotham City.

In the rich tapestry of the Batfamily, characters like Spoiler, Robin, and Huntress shine as symbols of resilience and determination. LET’S TALK ABOUT CLOWNHUNTER

Bao Pham is an anti-hero in Gotham City and has only one thing on his mind, to kill the Joker

and all those who support his cause. He is Clownhunter, Gotham City vigilante obsessed with killing Joker and his followers.

CLOWNHUNTER ORIGINS

The Clownhunter’s first appearance was in Batman #96, but they explained the story of him in later issues. He is Bao Pham, a quiet and slightly strange teenager who lives in the surroundings of Gotham City with his parents. His life is quite normal, a boy who grew up happily muttering jokes to himself, who lives admiring Gotham’s vigilante: Batman and helping his parents in his Vietnamese restaurant.

Life was simple until one day the Joker and Harley Quinn walk into the restaurant looking for a food from Quinn’s childhood, Pho soup. Joker closes the restaurant and forces dinner to be made for them. Pham’s parents obey and when they are going to tell them that don’t worry about the price: it’s on the house, Joker offers them an advice: Don’t breathe. Before releasing his Joker venom and killing them. Pham sees it all, but instead of dying with his parents, he was saved by Batman.

It is not at that moment that he becomes a Clownhunter. Pham’s desire for revenge is mitigated by Batman, who seeing himself reflected in the boy, decides to talk to him so that he does not react to provocation. In his talk, he promised him that he would catch the Joker and gave him a Batarang before leaving. With this talk Pham seemed calmer. He had always admired Batman and the vigilante had methods grewith which to catch Joker. Trusting him was easy, but there was a problem, time passed and the Joker was never caught.

His followers and his crimes increased with time. He couldn’t be safe anywhere anymore. With this in mind Pham’s anger grew and he made up his mind. He would become a vigilante and protect his neighborhood from the Joker’s followers and hopefully end up meeting him one day to get the revenge he deserved.

At that time Pham became a Clownhunter. He included the Batarang in a bat and began to dispense justice in a violent and cruel manner. Methods that Batman would not approve of.

This could have stopped him before but now he was determined to go all the way. His faith in Batman had fallen and he must kill these thugs to take down Joker once and for all.

At Batman Miniature Game we wanted to represent Clownhunter in this way and make your enemy tremble if he is using a Joker Crew.

CLOWNHUNTER GAME MECHANICS

Bao Pham is a Henchman with a low cost in Reputation, 23 points, but he comes with some surprises that make him very useful for that low cost (besides having a modeling that we love). It comes in a 40mm base and its movement is 10″.

WILLPOWER: 5

ENDURANCE: 5

ATT: 3

DEF: 3

STRENGTH: 5+

MOVEMENT: 10

Clownhunter has a good weapon, his Bat-Bat, does Stun+Blood, has Handy to repeat failed attack rolls and Heavy to add +1 to the strength die roll (Not bad for a 23-point model right?).

And to round off, this characteristic weapon has a Bleed: 2, if you get a critical with this, this weapon will kill. A set of skills not very long, but certainly useful.

We start with Devastating Blow. We had already seen this trait before, if we activate it, we will have a +1 in the strength die roll, and remember that Bat-Bat already had a +1 thanks to the “Heavy” so in general we would go with a +2 to the strength roll.

Let’s not forget that half of its name is “Hunter” so we have given it the Hunter trait. If we attack a model that is already activated, we can do an extra special action before or after attacking such as Devastating Blow.

Doing two special actions will be very useful since this angry young man also has Goad. With Goad, we can approach an enemy model to leave it within reach of Clownhunter, and if this model was already activated, thanks to Hunter we can also use Devastating Blow against it.

And you may be wondering: “This is all well and good, but will my Clownhunter make it to the melee?” So you don’t have to worry, because it also has Undercover, and we can deploy it 8″ away from the deployment zone, positioning it well from the first turn.

Finally Clownhunter comes with a new ability designed to represent the deep hatred he feels towards the murderers of his parents. This new ability is called “Antagonist” and must always be accompanied by a number and a name, in this case Clownhunter has Antagonist 2-Trickster. Models with Antagonist gain as many extra dice as the number indicates in attack and defense when targeting or being targeted by an enemy model that has the trait indicated by the name in Antagonist (In this case, Clownhunter will roll 2 extra dice in attack and defense against all Tricksters, clowns tremble).

In short, Clownhunter is a Henchman with a good attacking capacity for the points it costs.

LET’S TALK ABOUT POISON IVY (1997)

In Joel Schumacher’s 1997 film Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley was in an all-out fight to help the battered flora of planet Earth. After her “Accident” that turned her into Poison Ivy she did everything she could to wipe out as many humans as she could to ensure a future for her beloved plants, including something truly unexpected, allying herself with Mr. Freeze.

In this new Batman Miniature Game model, we will have at our disposal a great part of the powerful and seductive abilities that Poison Ivy displayed during the movie.

POISON IVY 1997 GAME MECHANICS

Poison Ivy 1997 is a crew leader cheaper in reputation points than the previous versions. 66 points for a model with a lot of control skills seems a good choice.

WILLPOWER: 7

ENDURANCE: 6

ATT: 3

DEF: 3

STRENGTH: 5+

MOVEMENT: 8

A couple of new abilities and some classic ones that we had already seen in Ivy make this Model a threat on the gaming table.

Affinity (Mr. Freeze 1997): Yes, you read that right, if your Mr. Freeze Crew is using Mr. Freeze (1997) as leader, you can bring Poison Ivy 1997 in the crew in the Free Agent slot. Let’s make this nice alliance that we saw in the movie continue on the game table.

Control Pheromones (Special): Her special to hypnotize enemies is still intact.

Elite Boss (Plants): Poison Ivy is still number one with plants, so if your crew can wear elite pants, you can include any number of them.

Mortal Kiss (Special): Another classic Poison Ivy trait that we saw in the movie, her deadly kiss. With this special ability activated, if Poison Ivy manages to make 3 hits in an attack against an enemy, she will eliminate that enemy directly.

Poison Immunity: I think this ability is self-explanatory.

Protect Me: Poison has so much convincing power that she can make any ally at 4 take the attacks that were originally meant for her.

Scientist: She is a scholar, and it shows. Scientists will help use one extra special trait per round.

This version of Poison Ivy does not have such powerful abilities as Chlorokinesis, Green Web or Pollination, but it does have a couple of new tricks that are sure to be useful.

Let’s Cool it for Now: With this deal, once per round, after Ivy places a suspect, she will be able to place a Defense Modifier Marker (Positive or negative) on a model within 4″ of that suspect.

Nature’s Arm (Special): By activating this special, until the end of the round Ivy will be able to place or reveal suspects at 4″ as long as she has line of sight (this combines quite well with “Let’s Cool it for Now”) and also, if we place those suspects in contact with an enemy model, it will gain Slow (2) entangled between Ivy’s plants. This effect combined with the “Cold” of Mr. Freeze’s crews can make us leave with a ridiculous movement even the Flash himself!

And of course she has an ideal complement for winter. We can buy her Ivy’s Cape for 50 dollars, which will give her “Cold Acclimation”. Don’t forget to wear a good coat if our ally is Mr. Freeze.

A model with many utilities with both Birds of Prey and Mr. Freeze Crew, we are looking forward to seeing it working in battles between the two sides and see which of the two can take greater advantage of this Leader (or free agent).

LET’S TALK ABOUT BATMAN & ROBIN (1997)

The most carismatic Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson we’ve ever seen on screen land at Batman Miniature Game as a tandem who know how to score objective cards and come ready to kick Mr. Freeze’s ass.

One of the most colorful Batman movies with some of the most histrionic performances we’ve seen deserved models to match.

Throughout the movie we can see Batman and Robin fighting hand to hand and falling on the evil henchmen of Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy (We can even see a version of Bane who has not been too well suited to the dose of poison) but at the end of the day the team fight and pirouettes end up tipping the scales to the side of the heroes.

We wanted to reflect that way of fighting and moving that Clooney and O’Donnell gave to the characters (not forgetting of course the controversial nipples on the armor).

BATMAN & ROBIN (1997) GAME MECHANICS

No surprises in this section, a solid Batman for 105 points and a slightly more fragile Robin for 45 but with a lot of mobility.

BATMAN:

Willpower: 7

Endurance: 7

Attack: 4

Defense: 4

Strength: 3+

Mov: 10

ROBIN:

Willpower: 6

Endurance: 5

Attack: 3

Defense: 4

Strength: 4+

Mov: 12

Both models have the option of investing a little money to upgrade their armor and get an extra point of Endurance and cold resistance.

We can see some new abilities in both Batman and Robin that allow them to fight as a team, be very mobile and make your opponent feel like they can drop down on any model from above, all while their abilities fit together beautifully to score objective cards.

Batman begins with many of the traits we’ve seen him with before.

Bat-Claw, Bat-Cape, Bat Armor MKII, Detective, Arrest, Sneak Attack & Teamwork (1) with Robin 1997 These are the skills he has that may be familiar from other versions.

This Batman 1997 also has some new surprises.

Bat Credit Card. The infamous card that the bat uses when he is on duty. For their day to day expenses (Like bidding 7 Million for Poison Ivy). Thanks to this card we will have available 350$ Extras to buy equipment for our crew.

Flying Kick (Especial). Batman 1997 is a true professional in the art of falling from the sky and delivering a flying kick that launches his enemies into the air. If we activate Flying Kick, until the end of the round if it falls from a high position on an enemy, our Melee attack will gain some bonuses: Devastating, Push (4) and in addition to all that, it will force the target enemy (as long as it doesn’t kill him) to drop a suspect (which will be very useful to score cards like: Comb Through Everything, or Follow The Clues).

A Robin with many traits for a reputation cost of only 45 points, 10 traits in total, 2 of them new.

Robin 1997 has many of the typical Robin traits that give him mobility and utility in equal parts, although don’t be misled, if a good opponent’s puncher comes to melee, this Robin, although somewhat more resistant than what we usually see in the Robin, is still not a good tank like the Batmans are.

Acrobat, Batclaw, Light Armor, One of the Boys + Radio, Reinforced Gloves & Teamwork (2) with Batman 1997.

This Teamwork (2) with Batman has an additional help to be used, and that is that Robin 1997 also has Stay in Formation, which will allow him to approach Batman before attacking and benefit from the powerful Teamwork (2).

You may have noticed that this Robin doesn’t have “Agile” and you may be wondering, how is he going to get down from buildings after he climbs up with the Bat-Claw? The answer is simple, if you saw the Joel Schumacher movie, Robin is able to fall from a rocket without getting a scratch, to represent this, he has the Kowabunga! trait.

If we activate this deal, Robin will not only not take damage from falling, but also, after finishing a move action that he started from a higher position, his unarmed attacks will gain Devastating and he will be able to move an additional 4″. Cool, High Five!

Protected Lips. Thanks to the lip protection she uses, Robin is immune to the poison.

With 150 reputation points between the two may seem like a very high amount but the utility that Batman and Robin 1997 bring to the crew for those points is very high. And we think their way of being played is tremendously fun, taking advantage of the Bat-Claws and dropping in on threats, your opponents will have a hard time planning turns with the constant threat of this duo.

LET’S TALK ABOUT MR. FREEZE (1997)

What killed the dinosaurs?! The Ice Age!

Mr. Freeze is Dr. Victor Fries. An amazing scientist who became a villain when his wife Nora fell ill and began searching for a cure for her disease. He can freeze everything and uses this weapon to finish off those who get in his way.

Mr. Freeze in his 1997 version arrives at Batman Miniature Game. Will this Crew leader go unnoticed or will he leave us all cold? Let’s take a look at his profile and find out how he can help you win games alongside his cool minions.

Mr. Freeze GAME MECHANICS

Mr. Freeze maintains the stats of his version (Cryo-Armor): 90 reputation points.

Willpower: 8

Endurance: 7

Attack: 3

Defense: 3

Strength: 3+

Movement: 8

Here we can see changes, Mr. Freeze 1997 has a Melee and a ranged weapon in his arsenal.

Frozen Gloves: Reinforced gloves capable of inflicting two contusions per hit, that apply Cold and also, thanks to the enormous strength of Mr. Freeze, they do Push (4). These gloves are a Cryo-Weapon, so if they manage to hit an enemy, another enemy model within 2″ will receive a hit from this weapon and a nearby suspect will freeze.

Cryo-Laser: The ranged weapon we saw Mr. Freeze use in the movie, a weapon capable of freezing Batman, Robin, or any opponent that gets within range. This Cryo-Laser has Medium Range, High Caliber, Beam and Brutal, its critical die will always be the last to be removed, hits with 2+ and critically hits with 5+. Additionally, this weapon has Crit. Freeze (which, remember, applies with a 5+) and the already classic in Mr. Freeze’s crew “Cold”.

Mr. Freeze 1997 has many traits, some known and some new. To give you an overall idea of how this character works, we will start with the traits that already existed before.

Cold Acclimation: Keyword that allows the members of this crew to profit in some situations.

Scientist: Victor Fries is a renowned scientist, so he can perform two special actions per turn.

Good Aim (Special Action): By spending one of his two special actions, Mr. Freeze can make one of his ranged attack dice hit with 2+, with this ability even people immune to critical hits (like a Batt Armor user) are not safe from the Cryo-Laser.

Cryo-Armor (2): An icy armor that makes Mr. Freeze a very tough guy.

Desensitized: Since he fell into the tank at temperatures below 0 his resistance to pain increased.

Ice Flash (Special Action): By spending a special action, he can use his Ice Flash on an enemy at 10″ which will freeze the enemy or if he is lucky and manages to resist it, it will reduce his defense and movement until the end of the turn.

Large: Let’s not forget who played the character in the movie, this Mr. Freeze is a really big guy.

True Love (Nora Fries): Victor Fries had the accident that turned him into Mr. Freeze looking for a cure for his beloved Nora.

Vulnerability to Fire: Since the accident Mr. Freeze needs to keep his body at very low temperatures, heat is especially harmful to him.

In addition to these many traits, Mr. Freeze 1997 has two new abilities:

Ice Age (Special Action): Once per game we can activate this special ability. Ice Age allows us to look for Mr. Freeze’s own objective card “Searching for Nora” in the objective deck, or if we prefer instead of looking for the card we can move our allies near Mr. Freeze or a frozen suspect 4″.

Freeze Well: This new passive ability allows us once per round to force an enemy we hit with our Cryo-Laser to place a suspicion and freeze it. This ability is quite easy to make it work, since the Cryo-Laser goes to 2+ to hit with the force die and thanks to Good Aim we can make one of the normal dice also hit at 2+. No more of those lists that did not play with suspects, Mr. Freeze 1997 will cause his enemies to place suspicions with his Laser.

Mr. Freeze 1997 is likely to become a very playable leader, his skill set makes it easy to score many target cards, such as “Endless Winter”, “Kingdom of Ice”, “Searching for Nora” or “Harsh Conditions”. So if you want to give a fresh touch to your games, this miniature is for you!

LET’S TALK ABOUT KID FLASH

The Speedforce is back at Batman Miniature Game and now it’s faster than ever. Kid Flash is the first of the new Speedsters we’ll be seeing in the coming months, and his usefulness within the Teen Titans is a far cry from the old versions we saw years ago.

KID FLASH’S BACKGROUND

Wallance Rudolph “Wally” West is the second Flash, aka Kid Flash, who first appeared in Flash #110 in 1959.

He is the nephew of Barry Allen’s girlfriend but they had no relationship until the incident that gave him the Flash’s powers.

Wally was a huge Flash fan and was very excited about visiting Central City to meet his hero. It was at the moment when Flash was explaining to Wally how he obtained his powers when the origin that gave rise to the incident was repeated, affecting Wally this time. After this incident, Flash decided to accept him as a pupil, turning the boy into Kid Flash.

With this identity Barry helped the Flash on many occasions, but he has also had solo adventures. He came to join the Teen Titans becoming an indispensable member of the group.

KID FLASH GAME MECHANICS

Now Kid Flash is a Henchman with 50 reputation points, we can tell you that with all the things he can do, those 50 points are going to seem like a gift.

He has a Willpower and Endurance of 5, it doesn’t look like much, but they can’t knock him down if they can’t reach him, plus he also has a 5 in defense, so if he gets caught, it won’t be easy for them to hit him.

Its base movement is 10”, but that’s only if it doesn’t use any of its traits and abilities that can make it move like no other Batman Miniature Game model. An attack of 3, which can also be improved with skills, and strength of 3+.

To understand the power that Kid Flash has, we must first explain how the Speedsters and the Speedforce work.

You can only recruit 1 model with the Speedster trait in your crew. With more space-time paradoxes could have devastating effects on reality.

Speedster: If you recruit a model with the Speedster trait, you must also play with the Speedforce Deck, (A separate deck with debuffs that we will receive if we go overboard using the Speedforce powers).

A Speedster model can use Speed Powers; to use them, it must draw Speed Force cards without seeing their contents and allocate them to its face-down Speed Force Discard Pile.

Each Speed Power is assigned a cost in Speedforce Deck cards that must be discarded, so the more powerful the effects of the Speed Powers, the more cards you will have to discard and the sooner the negative effects of playing with the Speedforce will appear.

Each time your Speedforce Deck becomes empty, the opponent draws the first 2 cards of your Speedforce Discard pile, and choose 1 and apply its effects to your model with Speedster. The effects are varied (lose 2 movement, lose 1 defense, reduce your effort limit etc.). Then shuffle again all your other Speedforce cards together and form the Speedforce Deck again.

In addition to the Speed Powers, Kid Flash has at its disposal a few normal traits, like any other model.

Always on the Move. Hit and run, Kid Flash must be like a bolt of lightning.

Dodge. With his speed he is able to dodge any ranged weapon.

Fast 4. It is not easy to attack him, neither at range nor in melee.

Now for the good part, the skills you can activate using Speedforce.

Molecular Control (1 Speedforce Card) Until the end of the round, this model may ignore all the scenery elements while moving, but cannot end inside them. Flash can be so fast that it becomes intangible.

Speed Force Master (1 Speedforce Card) Once per roll, this model can draw up to 1 Speedforce card to add 1 Attack dice to a melee attack or 1 dice to its Defense rolls. Fast attack, fast defense.

Super Speed 2 (1 or 2 Speedforce Cards) This model may draw up to 2 Speedforce cards to Move 4” for each card taken. If we add up all the movements of Kid Flash (10” of his normal movement + 4” of Fast + Up to 8” of Super Speed) we can move up to 22” in any turn, more than enough to take advantage of his “Always on the Move”.

Kid Flash has a couple of weapons that also benefit from the Speedforce.

Speed Force Bolts. It is a ranged weapon with a RoF3 and unlimited ammunition. It produces a concussion on impact, and its abilities are:

Short Range, Silencer, Beam, Throwing, Speed Attack 2 (This attack is a Speed Power and you need to draw 2 Speedforce cards to use it).

Fast Combo 1 (Draw 1 Speedforce card to activate this trait when an attack is declared. For each Success in an Attack roll, you add 1 Success).

To attack in Melee, we have at our disposal:

Speed Attack. An attack that makes a concussion on impact and its abilities are:

Overwhelming, Crushing, Fast Combo1 (These three skills together will make it really difficult to defend against this attack).

Don’t forget that thanks to Kid Flash’s “Speed Force Master” ability, we can roll an additional die if we wish.

If you like a fast and mechanical game style, Kid Flash is for you! Include him in your crew and use his skills to create a quick strategy that your rivals can’t stop.

LET’S TALK ABOUT BATMAN (MICHAEL KEATON)

When we think of the Batman character, in our mind we relate it to an actor. That actor varies depending on our generation, for younger dark knight fans that actor may be Christian Bale, Ben Affleck or even Robert Pattinson, but if you were born in the 80’s, as is my case, there is one actor that stands out among all the others. For us Batman will always be Michael Keaton.

This Batman really causes fear among the enemies of Gotham City, he has a style without frills, very expeditious. An armor capable of protecting him from the strongest attacks and a display of Bat-gadgets that made all of us who watched Tim Burton’s movie want to have all those toys to fight crime.

His game style, just like in the movies, will be tremendously forceful, capable of facing several of the opponent’s threats alone. Do you want to know more in depth how the new Batman is going to be? Below, we reveal all the details and how to take advantage of it during a game.

BATMAN’S (MICHAEL KEATON) GAME MECHANICS

This Batman will have a Willpower and Endurance of 8. A fairly standard amount in all Batman Miniature Game.

His Attack of 4 may seem mediocre compared to other Batman with attack 5, but read on, we already told you that he is one of the Batman with more punch in the entire BMG catalog, and his defense of 4 together with the Bat-Armor Mk I make him tough enough to make the opponent think if it’s worth attacking him.

He has a 10″ movement but with his “Hidden” ability and the “Batclaw” on almost any game table we will be able to put Batman practically anywhere we want from round 1 of play.

Solid stats for our leader at a reputation cost of 125 which is justified with the combination of deals that will allow us to control the table wherever we have Batman.

Many, varied, useful and some new. We find many that are already classics in any Batman, such as Bat Cape, Bat-Armor Mk I, Batclaw, Detective or Shadows Agent, but we also find some traits that are not so common to see and are those that we will discuss more in depth.

Hidden: We already know that we have previously had some Batman with this trait, but Batman (Michael Keaton) makes it especially useful, because it is a Batman that we want in the enemy lines giving blows and disrupting the opponent’s plans. With Hidden, from the first turn we will be causing problems.

360º Strike: In a model that does not have “Reach” in any of its attacks it may seem a waste and an ability that we will rarely use. Before you judge this ability read “Enhanced Batlings“.

Enhanced Batlings” is a passive ability. After dealing damage with a ranged attack (this Batman has the Batlings which are also Throwing), you can put the enemy model you have damaged in contact with Batman. Additionally, after moving the enemy model with this deal, you can perform a Melee attack with the 360º rule for free. These rules in combination, can cause the following sequence to occur: Batman (Michael Keaton) comes out of the shadows and goes in contact with an enemy model.

He throws the Batlings at a different enemy model, and if he manages to damage it, he brings it also in melee contact and then makes a 360º Melee attack on both of them.

Batman (Michael Keaton) Melee attack is Expeditious Fighter, a 2 Stun damage attack that rolls two strength dice and subtracts -1 from opponent’s defense rolls.

If this whole sequence went well, you will have made in a single action, a ranged attack and hit two enemy models with a melee attack action (and displacing one of the opposing models). Not bad for a single action.

“I’m Batman” is a deal that once per round, for free, allows you to cycle one of your Menace or Violence objective cards to apply “Scared” to an enemy model within 8″. If we apply that Scare to the model, we are going to throw the Batligns at to start the whole sequence we explained before, this model will not be able to use Dodge and will have reduced attack and defense rolls.

This whole pack of traits to dish out justice in the form of blows is rounded out with Martial Artist, a trait that will help to not have disadvantages in case there is anyone left standing after your chain of actions ends.

As a final touch, in addition to all that this model provides, like The Penguin (Batman Returns), if the leader of your crew is Batman (Michael Keaton) , you will have the option of including in your crew one of the most charismatic characters of the entire Batman cinematic universe.

If you are a lover of subtlety and elegant strategies, this is not your Batman. On the other hand, if you like to thwart your opponents plans with blunt blows, Batman (Michael Keaton) will surely bring more than one smile to your face in your games.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE PENGUIN (BATMAN RETURNS)

The Penguin as the Mayor? Who would think it’s a good idea to put Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot as Mayor of Gotham?

With webbed flipper-like fingers, hooked beak-like nose and penguin-like body, Oswald was raised by penguins at the zoo after being abandoned by his parents as a baby. When he reappears years later, with the help of corrupt businessman Max Shreck and the Red Triangle gang, he runs for mayor while secretly plotting to kill all of Gotham’s first-born children as revenge against his parents.

The Penguin’S (Batman Returns) GAME MECHANICS

A criminal mind inside a small deformed body. In this film, The Penguin shows us some of the craziest uses of his umbrella. Using it as a flamethrower and as a machine gun.

For the Batman Miniature Game, we wanted to provide the Penguin with these weapons without forgetting his political side.

This character will keep many of the Penguin’s typical Batman Miniature Game abilities such as Charismatic, Handyman, Small and Underworld King, but will also have a couple of new traits that may make this Penguin one of the best choices as the leader of your crew Mayor Cobblepot and Undercover Penguins.

Would you like to know what these new traits will do? You won’t have to eat raw fish to find out, we’ll tell you about it below.

Mayor Cobblepot

Thanks to the funds he has raised for his campaign, this deal allows us to start the game with 2 Business Counters and we can also use them to pay for bodyguards who want to attack our beloved mayor. A kind of “Protect me” paid with money of not very legal origin.

Additionally, thanks to this trait, “The Long Game” objective cards will give us an extra victory point when we score them.

Undercover Penguins

What would a Penguin crew leader be without being able to manage and give orders to his penguins?

Undercover Penguins is possibly the best trait to give orders and manage your crew’s penguins on Batman Miniature Game.

If your crew contains a model with this trait, you can deploy your penguins within 4″ of the sewer markers and you can infiltrate your opponent’s deployment zone with ease.

In addition, it will no longer be necessary to remove suspect markers to take out your penguins, just by placing them you can spawn them near a sewer marker (by not removing the suspect marker it will be easier to score “The Long Game” that comes upgraded with Major Cobblepot).

And if that wasn’t enough, once per round one of your penguins will be able to do a free action in the activation of this model.

The Penguin (Batman Returns) is one of the most versatile we have in Batman Miniature Game, giving us ease of scoring cards and with more victory points at the same reputation cost as the older versions.

There is one more thing that makes this Penguin special that we can’t tell you yet, but we can give you a hint. Do you remember who the Penguin was interested in the movie?

INTERESTING FACTS

  • In Batman Returns, the 1992 film directed by Tim Burton, Danny DeVito gives life to this peculiar character. In all the scenes where The Penguin comes out eating raw fish, DeVito was actually eating raw fish in bites.

The Penguin (Batman Returns) arrives at Batman Miniature Game to make things very difficult for Batman. In a few days you can find it in our online store, do not miss the opportunity to launch a few penguins to attack against your enemies.

BATMAN ON THE SCREEN

Batman is one of the most represented characters in audiovisual media of all time. The setting of his world, the chains of his past and his highly visual style have created a legend that is hard to imitate. Batman has had many styles and designs, but he always gets that essence that makes him one of the recognized vigilantes of all time. In this article we will see the trajectory of the Dark Knight and the changes that have given him over time.

BATMAN (TV SERIES AND FILM)

There have been many actors who have played the role of Batman over the years, but one of the most emblematic and pioneering in making our vigilante famous was Adam West in the Batman series and movie. The Batman of the 60s is more light-hearted and has a more comedic style that conquered viewers around the world. Today, he is still an icon. Adam West and Burt Ward as Robin, are the classic Batman and Robin. The fans love these guys and remember them with special affection.

BATMAN (1989)

Almost thirty years passed until another Batman movie saga conquered the cinematographic world. These films are the Tim Burton adaptations where the tone of the film is just… Tim Burton style!

These movies are much darker, scarier and more sinister. We can verify it in the Batman played by Michael Keaton. The legend of the Dark Knight begins to be seen in him. I feel a much more serious Batman, with few words and visibly darker than the sixties version.

This change came as a surprise to many fans, and although these films have their critics, they have been considered a milestone in the history of Batman.

Batman & Robin (1997)

George Clooney’s Batman put an original twist on the path of the character. The Batman & Robin movie has got a lot of feedback regarding this change. It is a film of contrasts that got an original and extravagant touch that did not get much popularity from the fans.

THE DARK KNIGHT

We have seen another type of Batman during the following period of cinema, such as George Clooney’s Batman, and Kevin Conroy’s from the animated series Batman Beyond, but it was Christian Bale who played another of the best-known Batman.

Christopher Nolan’s Batman has an original touch. The film focuses more on the Batman universe in a more realistic way, not being as dark as Burton’s saga, but having a more outstanding dynamism than it. The entire trilogy focuses on how epic Batman’s characters are. His action stands out throughout the story and the characters shine with their own light. All these combinations have made this trilogy one of the most popular versions of the Dark Knight.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE

How to interpret Batman after the success that Bale had in the Dark Knight? Creating a completely different Batman.

Ben Affleck has been in several Batman adaptations, the most famous being the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice movie. In this film we see a darker Batman than Bale, but with a more realistic style than Keaton’s. This Batman follows the style of a quiet and mysterious man, but has a very original touch of introspection that we rarely see in the vigilante of Gotham city. More aware of his problems than ever, this Batman will serve the same purpose as the others. Fight for what he believes to be fair.

THE BATMAN

We end this review of the adaptations of Batman with his latest film production: The Batman.

This time Batman is played by Robert Patinson. His Batman, like Affleck, is totally different from before. For this occasion, we have a gloomy Batman, but with a grunge touch that complements the originality of the film. Everything in this world is more underground including Enigma, the villain of the film to whom we see a darker eccentricity. A realistic element that we had not seen before and that fits the film perfectly.

INTERESTING FACTS

  • Other actors considered to play Batman in The Batman movie were Nicholas Hoult, Armie Hammer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
  • Before delving into the comic books and researching the character, Robert Pattinson didn’t know Batman was a detective.
  • Michael Keaton’s movements as Batman were limited by the restrictions of the costume.

This has been the journey of some Batman movies through time. We hope you liked it.
